It’s difficult to determine the amount of torque required to provide the correct preload and clamp force of a given fastener. For example— when tightened, dry uncoated fasteners use up about 95% of the applied torque simply by overcoming the friction between the male and female threads. To ensure that all ARP® fasteners provide the optimum level of service, the installed residual stress is calculated and verified experimentally using a superior quality lubricant. It is important to note that the friction coefficients of lubricants vary dramatically, making it difficult to consistently produce the exact amount of stress within the fastener to clamp the components together. That’s why ARP® developed an ultra-consistent lubricant and recommend the use of our premium grade ASSEMBLY LUBRICANT or THREAD SEALER in order to precisely duplicate the recommended tightening specifications provided with all ARP® fasteners.

ARP Assembly Lubricant
• Premium grade Moly base with rust and corrosion inhibitors.
• Effective lubrication range: -30°F to 750°F.
• Load range: 500,000 psi.
• Other applications: Primary assembly lube for engine components, press fitting, gear trains and general machinery.

Thread Sealer
• Teflon based w/rust & corrosion inhibitors.
• Effective range: -30° to 550°F.
• Sealant range: 10,000 psi (pressure).
• Application: delivers a flexible leak-proof seal in aluminum, steel, stainless steel and plastic against coolants, water, gasoline, natural gas and LPG.
• Designed for use with bolts

Not recommended for use on rotating components.

High performance extreme high pressure gear lube. Uses include manual transmissions & both conventional & posi-traction diffs, that would have used an EP90 gear oil. Contains special clinging agents that provide direct adhesion to all moving parts.

When your engine is built it can sit around for a long time. Oil would gradually run off the cam etc. These products are designed to stick on, to avoid metal to metal contact & excessive wear.

Modern oils lack certain chemicals that were used with flat tappet cams. This is because most modern engines have roller lifters, that do not need these chemicals - like zinc & manganese.

Time marches on . . . and generally that’s a good thing. But unfortunately, over time, some of the good stuff can get left behind. COMP Cams® Engine Break-In Oil Additive brings back the good stuff, delivering a specially engineered blend of extreme pressure break-in additives that have been removed from current off-the-shelf motor oils. Delivering added protection during the break-in process and beyond for all engine components, including the camshaft and lifters, COMP Cams® Engine Break-in Oil Additive is compatible with any petroleum, synthetic or blended motor oil.

COMP Cams® Engine Break-In Oil Additive extends the durability of internal engine components, protecting against premature camshaft, lifter and valve train failure. Best of all, COMP Cams® Engine Break-In Oil Additive has proven to deliver long term benefits with new or rebuilt engines through continued usage. Simply pour in a bottle for initial break-in, run the engine for approximately 1,000 miles, drain the system thoroughly and then refill with clean oil and another bottle of COMP Cams® Engine Break-In Oil Additive at each oil change. Part PP-BY159 is a 12 oz bottle of engine break in lubricant.

Engine Oil Supplements & Additives
Making certain that the camshaft and lifters are properly lubricated upon installation will guarantee that they are protected during the critical start-up of your newly-built engine. COMP Cams® offers the right product for this job PP-BY153, and it is available in several different size containers for engine builder convenience. Even more importantly, we strongly recommend the use of COMP Cams® Break-In Oil Additive PP-BY159 during the break-in. While this additive was originally developed specifically for break-in protection, subsequent testing has proven the durability benefits of its long term use. This proprietary blend of anti-wear and extreme pressure additives promotes proper break-in and protects against premature cam and lifter failure by replacing some of the beneficial ingredients that the oil companies have been forced to remove from off-the-shelf oil.
