McLeod Clutch Plates and Covers

McLeod are perhaps best known for clutches, in fact, they are often referred to as “The best known, unknown clutch company in the business” It means the industry experts know them, while the public is just learning about them! That’s right, ask any respected engine, transmission or race car builder. When it comes to which clutch they want or recommend, inevitably they ask for those “red ones” - McLeod clutches! They also manufacture other driveline products from throwout bearings, flywheels, bell housings and more.

McLeod Industries is a supplier to MOPAR Performance, Ford Motor Co., Roush, Saleen for both his Mustangs and S7s, and we designed the flywheels for the 2000 Cobra R, and 2003-4 Cobras. When Ford was designing and building the Ford GT prototype they went to McLeod Industries, for the clutch.

Around 36 years ago, Red Roberts founded McLeod and established it as the best-known Clutch Company to the industry; now it’s time for you to get to know them.

McLeod Street/Strip Clutch Plates

McLeod clutches offer a performance sprung hub plate that is tough enough for competition and yet still compatible with road use. Clutches feature a friction facing that incorporates brass fibers for lubrication to prevent glazing, while the high technology resins assure the best in high rpm performance. The heat tolerance of the clutch is much greater than previous metallic facing material.

McLeod 300 Series Clutch Plates

The competition bonded and riveted 300 series plates are the ultimate in conventional (non metallic) faced clutch plates. The friction material is riveted and then bonded to the drive plate under 50 tons of pressure. The plates have a burst strength two to three thousand rpm higher than organic plates. There is no springing between faces.

McLeod 400 Series Clutch Plates

The 400 series metallic faced paddle is designed for high rpm, high load racing. The plate is a four paddle, sprung hub plate which uses the same heavy duty silicon springs and spring steel drive plates that are found in all McLeod clutches. The result is a positive lockup unit that still has a degree of cushioning to prevent excessive driveline shock and breakage.

McLeod Street Twin

Built to handle the sudden violence of Nitrous, perfect for blown and high performance street cars. The Street Twin is an advance version of McLeod's Borg & Beck/Long clutch. The assembly is a light weight unit, compact enough to fit into most standard bell housings. Featured is a specially designed ”skinny” steel 153 tooth flywheel and offset plate hub to keep the height almost the same as standard. Floater rattle is eliminated by the use of ”drive straps”, like those found on pressure plates. Marcel springs between the clutch facings prevent chatter and make the car easier to drive. This adds up to a clutch assembly that can take up to 800ft/lb of torque, with a static pressure of 2400-2600lb.

McLeod Magnum Force 1 Assembly

The Magnum Force twin plate clutch and flywheel assembly is the most reliable small diameter racing clutch available. It features an aluminum flywheel, anodized aluminum hat and replaceable steel heat shield pressure ring for greater reliability and easier replacement, drilled floaters and open styling eliminate floater hang up due to dust accumulation, high crown diaphragm fingers use readily available flat face throwout bearings, comes complete with small diameter full flywheel and Grade 8 studded stand bolts. For 153 tooth ring gears, can be supplied with 10 or 26 spline plates, neutrally balanced.
